Keeper

A cover I illustrated for a book, written by Kathi Appelt and art directed by Debra Sfetsios of Simon & Schuster, was published in 2010. The target reader is from middle school to young adults.

Keeper is the young girl in the story, who has delusions of being a mermaid. As she seeks out her missing mother, who swam out to sea when she was only 3, Keeper’s journey provides her with a lesson about holding onto fairy tales too long and replacing the idea of magic with real love in her heart.
